Kibworth Velo Club

It’s been a busy summer of cycling for our newly formed Kibworth Velo Club, our social village cycling club. Since April we have been doing a regular Thursday ‘Club Ride’, a pedal around the surrounding countryside ending with a chat over pint or glass of wine! We have had good participation levels, with around 6-8 riders out each week. We also have the ‘Chat & Pootle’ option led by Rachel Lundy - this has been a slower, leisurely ride which meets the Club Ride at the same pub. This ride is in its infancy and we’ll be publishing our rides more widely next season.

In August we held the ‘Mystery Cycle Treasure Hunt’ organised by club member Keith Low. A 20 mile circuit ended in East Langton with lots of tales of missed clues, wrong turns and complete guesses! We also had some new villagers join in as well as regulars Chris Pople, Ady Ward, Peter Witting, Jonny Hewitt and Rachel.

A number of our riders enter various summer cycling events. Chris, Fraser & Kerry Law, Lino & Sarah Poli, Alan Watts and James Gilling entered the ‘Rutland Epique Sportive’ in June. Keith did the ‘Wiggle Sportive’ in Bournemouth whilst we’ve had international exposure with Chris, Fraser and Steve Blake riding in Majorca and Canada whilst the irrepressible Andy Mcintyre has completed 4 days Paris to Geneva amongst the 10,000 miles he’s completed this year. Amazing!

Cycling in the autumn/winter doesn’t stop, just more weather dependent! Keep an eye on our Facebook page - we’ll head out for rides at weekends and also diversify to include leisurely rides round Rutland Water, Pitsford Reservoir and the Brampton Valley Way. Remember, summer bodies are built in the winter!

On Sunday 5 November, we have the free to join ‘Confessional Sunday!’ organised by Keith Low and all villagers are welcome. It will be a social pedal taking in 20 villages in the shortest distance possible taking a picture of the church in each village.

Finally, our identity has been marked with the new Kibworth Velo Club kit. Jerseys, Gilets, Shorts, etc. are all available to buy at a very reasonable price. Please contact Chris Pople on 07779 608 141 if you’d like to know more.
