Kibworth Art Loversí Society

Jane French is a leading light of the Leicester Society of Artists and her work is seen in all the local exhibitions - she has been the featured artist in the Cank Street Gallery - as well as several in the South of England. She took a Fine Arts degree in Newcastle and an MA in design at De Montfort University. She holds regular teaching workshops and accepts commissions in her favourite genre, portraits.

Twenty four of our members and guests greatly enjoyed watching her paint a portrait in oils of our Treasurer, Jenny Riseborough. Using a restricted palette of colours on an MDF board she first sketched the subject in Prussian blue, put down the tonal values and succeeded in producing an excellent likeness and a satisfying picture in the two hours available. We all learnt a lot about how to tackle a portrait and picked up many practical tips as well.

Wendy Daviesís lovely textile work is in the Building Society at the moment - twelve small abstracts arranged in pairs with the sketch and the finished work side by side. These will be followed by Pat Porteousís work in March. The next meeting will be on 28 February when Paul Maslowski will demonstrate the art of Chinese brushwork.
