Norton and Gaulby Young Farmers Club

Norton and Gaulby Young Farmers Club have had a positive start to the year. In January, we began by collecting Christmas Trees across the county to raise money for charity. Based at Grange Farm Christmas Barn, Thorpe Langton, by kind permission of the Mount Family, we spent the weekend of the 13th and 14th collecting and recycling trees from homes in return for a small donation. This was a fantastic effort from the club, and was greatly appreciated, as for many, it saved the abandoned Christmas tree sitting in the garden until July! (Im sure we all know someone who comes to mind when I say this!)

In the photograph below Jack Jones, Club Chairman, is seen presenting a cheque to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance representative Richard Clutterbuck, from monies raised by the club last year. To his right are Club secretary, Charlotte Stanbridge and Lewis Charlesworth.

Norton and Gaulbys next challenge is a 162 mile charity cycle from Market Harborough to Blackpool in May in aid of the Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance - something very close to the heart of many of the local Young Farmers. Ten years ago Sam Stanbridge, brother of two of our members - James and Charlotte Stanbridge - tragically died in a farm accident. Ten years on, with Charlotte as secretary for the club, it was felt fitting to take on this challenge for such a great cause. Ten riders have been busy training over the last few weeks in the build up to the cycle ride. We will be in the area over the next couple of months collecting donations and raising money for a great charity.

Please visit the Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/fundraising/cycletoblackpool to find out more information. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
