Runners soak up the London atmosphere

Four members of Fleckney & Kibworth RC took to the streets of London for the Virgin Money London Marathon this year. Despite the record high temperatures there were some excellent individual performances. Robert Archer was first home in a time of 3hrs 44:14, followed closely by Bernadette Owen in a time of 3hrs 53:24, claiming 7th place in her Age Category. Marathon first timer Hannah Carter put in a splendid effort, finishing in a time of 4hrs 12:54, and the quartet was completed by Kirit Patel in a time of 5hrs 42:55. All agreed that the hot weather affected them, especially after months of winter training, but the incredible support along the route was a huge boost.

Elsewhere, Michelle Hodgson headed for Madrid to take part in her debut half marathon, posting a very creditable time of 2hrs 20:53, alongside Alex Smyth who posted a new PB of 1hr 40:18.

Club Members were also in action on Sunday 29 April at the Leicester Big 10k which saw more than 1,200 runners competing in and around Abbey Park. Dan Pedley came home in a time of 1hr 1:21 and was closely followed by Karen Foyster who recorded a new PB in 1hr 1:50.
