On Saturday 21 April an Open Day was run for children between the ages of 4 to 8. The event was a great success with over 55 people attending. All of the children took part in a 4 to 5 session which included being introduced to the forehand and backhand shots and playing some fun games. At the end of the session a demonstration was carried out with children aged from 5 to 18, who attend the tennis coaching sessions at the club, showing the ‘evolution of the junior tennis player’. The photo shows the children who took part in the demonstration.
Mini/Junior Matches Started
The Mini and Junior Tennis matches started in April. Over 85 children will be playing matches against other clubs throughout Leicestershire. It will be a busy time for the match organiser, Joe Van Diepen, and the parents, as over 70 matches will be played over the next two months! Two of the Mini Red teams (8&U) started their season by playing their first matches at Loughborough University on Saturday 28 April. The photo below shows the children who played for the 2 8&U teams.
Tennis For Pre-school Children
Tots Tennis is for pre-school children from the ages of 3 upwards. It is a fun way for children to start playing tennis using smaller rackets and softer balls. It also develops the children’s movement and hand/eye coordination skills. The sessions take place outside at Kibworth Tennis Club. One session is currently running on a Friday from 2 to 2.45pm and there are spaces available. We will also be running a new 6 week Tots Tennis course on a Saturday from 8.45 to 9.30am starting on 2nd June. For more information please contact Paul Bradfield on 07753 862436.
