We Are The Champions!
Norton and Gaulby Young Farmers
The last couple of months has been record breaking for Norton and Gaulby Young Farmers, with the club finishing their cycle challenge to Blackpool, and later winning the Annual County Rally!
Norton and Gaulby has been training hard for their cycle challenge to Blackpool in aid of the Derbyshire, Leicestershire, and Rutland Air Ambulance. 11 cyclists, supported by James Stanbridge, undertook this challenge in loving memory of Sam Stanbridge, brother to two of our members, James and Charlotte. Sam sadly passed away in a farming accident 10 years ago. After months of training, we are pleased to say that we did it!! We cycled through the undulating Staffordshire hills arriving in Blackpool 177 miles later in time for the Annual Young Farmers AGM. It was a struggle at times, but I am sure all the riders can agree that it was a rewarding experience, and something we will never forget. The retiring Chairman, Jack Jones, said in his chairman’s speech at the AGM, “I could not be prouder for the club, knowing that we have undertaken this challenge for such a great cause, and in loving memory of Sam.” A cheque for £10,000 was presented to the DLRAA, which was greatly appreciated. We would like to thank everyone who made a donation for all your support!
Once back from Blackpool, the club went straight into the Annual Leicestershire County Rally which took place on 12 May at Grange Farm, Barrow on Trent. The club did fantastically, battling the other 10 clubs in the county in competitions such as Flower Arranging, Cross Country, and Stock Judging. For the 2nd year in a row, the club won the rally! This is something which it did for the 1st time in its 76-year history last year!
Our AGM took place on Tuesday 5 June, whereby Jack Jones and Charlotte Stanbridge handed over the club to the next Chairman and Secretary, Ashling Toolan, and Jess Armitage.
