Kibworth Velo Club

The cyclists of Kibworth Velo Club had riders enter the Loch Ness Etape in April. Fraser Law, Keith Low, Craig Morris, Adrian Ward, Ward Ludbrook and Richard Lowther posted very respectable times, with Richard posting a top 500 finish time.

A great trip and a fabulous location to cycle on closed roads.

We’ve been doing regular Club Rides on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. We welcome all new riders and as our club expands we’re catering for more cyclists of mixed ability, drawing in new members from Great Glen, Fleckney and Bruntingthorpe. As a result we run different paced rides to cover all abilities. We also have a new ‘clubhouse’ as all our Club Rides end at Boboli in Kibworth - Lino and Sarah are keen cyclists and you’ll see our club plaque in the reception area - many an ice cold beer has been consumed post-ride!

We have been taking advantage of the weather having ridden to some great cafes for coffee and cake, as far afield as Brinklow, Barrowden, Harringworth, taking pictures of the countryside as we go.

The club social calendar continued with the ‘Moon Ride’ on 6 July. Keith Low organised a 20 and 30 mile loop around the Welland Valley, preceded by Lino’s pizza at Boboli. A great time was had by all on what was a very warm night!

Finally, a heartfelt message to all Chronicle readers. If you own a car please be respectful to cyclists on the road. We ride away from the kerb to avoid glass, stones and potholes and to ensure cars have to pass wide - this is for our safety. The Highway Code states cyclists should ride no more than two abreast which we do and we ride single file on busier stretches.

Please be patient with us, we are not deliberately slowing down cars or blocking roads. Remember it is better to get to where you are going late than not at all, and if time is that important to you, set off earlier.

Cycling is a really safe sport anyone can enjoy with Kibworth and the surrounds a great place to do it.
