Smeeton Westerby Armistice Concert

On the evening of Saturday 10 November, Christ Church became a hive of activity as over 150 people gathered to enjoy and take part in The Oddfellows Brass Band Armistice concert. This excellent band, led by Rob Boulter, entertained everyone with songs and music from the wars, with highlights being a beautiful adaptation of Abide with Me, Nimrod and Dambusters. Captain Mark Chapman led The Act of Homage during which, the names of those men from the village who had lost their lives during combat were remembered. The concert was interspersed with the more light hearted songs and reflective poems were also read to add to the atmosphere of the evening.

With a delicious buffet being served at half time, everyone was refreshed and ready to continue to sing along to such well known songs as ‘Bless ‘Em All’, The White Cliffs of Dover’ and ‘We’ll meet again’. This excellent evening, organised by the Village Hall Committee alongside the band, raised over £1,500 for The British Legion. A huge thanks must also go to all of the generous people who donated items to make the buffet such a success.

If you would like to hear the band again, they will be playing at the Carol Concert at Christ Church, Smeeton, on Sunday 16 December at 6.30pm.
