Kibworth Practices to Merge
East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group’s (ELR CCG) Primary Care Commissioning Committee (PCCC) has approved Two Shires Medical Practice and Kibworth Medical Centre’s proposal to merge the two practices into one practice.
The practices engaged with their patients and general public during a number of face-to-face events and undertook a 90-day consultation between 18 July and 15 October to gather their views. Out of the 923 people who responded to the survey, 72% were in favour of a merger.
Meeting the changing needs of patients and providing more choice in the health services they receive was a key driver for the practices’ proposal. The practices demonstrated how a merger would improve the overall range and quality of services to all patients by providing better access to services including clinical staff, increasing GP availability and continuity of care for patients.
In a joint statement, Dr Choudhury, Senior Partner at Kibworth Medical Centre and Dr Hardman, Senior Partner at Two Shires Medical Practice added: “We would like to thank our patients and stakeholders for taking part in the consultation. We are committed to engaging with our patients and taking on board their comments. The merger will be a very positive step forward for our patients and ensures sustainability for the future.”
The two practices will write to patients in due course informing them of the decision and next steps. The CCG will support the practices to ensure they are able to respond to wider comments made by members of the public where possible. The practices will also work on a merger operational plan between now and March 2019, with a view to the formal merger being in place from April 2019.
