Market Harborough Girls Rugby Team

The 2017 season started with just 11 players and by the end we had grown to 28 regulars. We achieved this by adding structure, routine, inclusion, parental involvement, a sprinkle of fun, a few laughs and lots of Core Values: discipline, enjoyment, teamwork, sportsmanship and respect.
We ran a training and awareness programme over the summer of 2018 so by the start of the 2018/2019 season, we found that more girls wanted to get involved, and at varying ages. We were able to create two teams of girls, U11s and U13s. None of this could have been achieved without the support of the club, dedicated coaches and associated parents.

The club rent extra pitches now to assist the girls playing on a pitch instead of a piece of spare ground in the corner. The girls can play during ‘normal’ club times and get great exposure instead of having to wait for the boys to finish. There are changing facilities available for the girls, and additional support also comes from the first team coaching staff running training clinics.

And the results? Well, come and look for yourself. Our girls are not just any team, but a team that smiles and giggles. A team of girls that understands the Core Values and the value of each and every one of their team mates. Look on the pitches on a Sunday and you will see them working hard under their own volition. They self motivate, grow in confidence, develop self belief and make friends.

Girls come from all areas of Leicestershire, because we are the best and because we support and encourage girls’ rugby. We now have the U15s training on Wednesday evenings with games on Sundays - home and away - and the U13s and U11s train and play games on Sunday.
