Kibworth Velo Club (KVC)

We had a great Christmas and New Year with our first Christmas Party at Boboli - a good turnout on the evening and lovely food provided by Sarah and the team. The weather has remained favourable so we’ve been able to get out riding during the break, certainly for those who’ve avoided the seasonal colds & flu!

We held our first Committee Meeting where we discussed what we had achieved in the two years since the formation of KVC - we have over 100 people following us on Facebook and c25-30 people riding. With the ride range of abilities, and to encourage new participants (including those perhaps put off by traffic, lycra, ability or another reason(!), we discussed how to cover increased diversity and inclusion. To that end we have resolved to offer different paced rides and Introduction to Cycling rides - these will commence in the Spring.

We will also be expanding the social aspect of our club, with regular club events for member participation. All this will be notified through the Facebook page and regular articles in the Chronicle.

You will see more club rides posted on the Facebook page, the changes include an ‘U15 mph’ weekend ride to a coffee and cake café as well as a faster-paced ride. The slower group is ideal for those relatively new to cycling, returning from injury or who like to ‘chat & pedal’. A slightly different start time means both groups arrive at the same time. Club members administer the two groups, with the route being posted to the Facebook page. We’re committed to running the two groups so no-one will be riding alone and we work as a team.

Keith Low and Ward Ludbrook are helping launch the U15 mph group with support from Chris Pople, Fraser Law and Simon O’Donnell. Thursday nights, when the clocks change, will remain the ‘Club Ride’ evening where we ride as one group at the pace of the slowest riders. This is very much a social ride around the Welland Valley and finishing at Boboli for a drink!
