The Kilby Woodland Trust

The Kilby Woodland Trust, established in 2009, manages 15 acres of woodland. They raise funds by selling tree plots for new trees or adopting existing trees. They also host fundraising events and rent out garden areas. From February, two-thirds of the vacant plots are available for £32 annually.

My guess is that most readers of our wonderful ‘Kibworth & District Chronicle’, have made changes in their lifestyles because of the climate crisis we are now in. André Aranha Corrêa do Lago, Brazilian leader of COP30 UN climate summit last November in the Amazonian city of Belém said “As the age of warnings gives way to the age of consequences, humanity confronts a profound truth: climate adaptation is no longer a choice that follows mitigation; it is the first half of our survival.”

Calving and lambing day at Bridge 67

Once again we are looking forward to welcoming you into the calving and lambing sheds at our annual open day, on Saturday 21 March Binleys Bridge Farm, Debdale Lane, Smeeton Westerby, LE8 0QD. Come down to the farm between 11am – 5pm to see the cows calving and sheep lambing.  We will hopefully have a few pigs for you to see too.

February 2026 - Editorial - I remember when this was all fields!

I am sure I’m not alone in being able to recall my grandparents and parents gazing wistfully across a huge new housing estate and sighing “I remember when this was all green fields”. The ‘Green and Pleasant land’ of William Blake and Hubert Parry has always been prized, whether as an ideal or as a reality for those fortunate enough to live in an area like Kibworth and its surrounding villages. It is a fair assumption that people who move to this area are not, in the main, hoping to find nightclubs, Sushi bars and multiplex cinemas. The beauty and peace of the countryside with its walks and wildlife has to be a strong magnet for those who are lucky enough to have choices.

Im memory of Pat Stops

We are saddened to learn of the death of Patricia ‘Pat’ Stops. For many years, Patricia ran a haute couture ladies' dress shop on Kibworth High Street. These are where ‘Wedding Belles’ is currently located. Patricia, who lived in Slawston, was 90 years old and was the wife of the late Michael Stops.

In memory of Harold Mann

The Kibworth & District Chronicle is saddened to learn of the death of Harold Mann. Harold was possibly the oldest member of our monthly delivery volunteers. He was asked many years ago by the then editor Roger Garratt to assist with delivering the Chronicle on a temporary basis but continued to do so in his nineties. He will be missed.
