Kibworth Velo Club Launched!

It’s been another great year of cycling for Kibworth Velo Club - we have more new riders joining the club from neighbouring villages and the Ladies section also established doing some lovely summer rides to local cafes. We’ve done regular club rides on a Thursday, finishing at our host venue, Boboli and we do longer rides on a Saturday or Sunday with a coffee/cake stop.

Our riders have done a number of great events. A party went to ride the Passo Stelvio in Italy in September, one of the toughest mountain climbs and featured in the Giro d’Italia. All completed with some great pictures! Preparation for that included cycling in the Lake District up Winnatts Pass amongst other hills. We were present at the Loros Ride to Skegness in June, a fabulous event blessed with great weather - we were supported by Keith Low who manned our ‘team bus’. Fraser Law, Craig Morris and Kieran Towers did a brilliant job fundraising over £3,000. We also did a day ride around the Isle of Wight which was great fun albeit the 4am start less so! We’ve been present at a number of sportives including the Ride Harborough and Ride-IT Leicester events, all really good challenges and well organised events.

Participation levels are great - we had a record 19 riders out on a Thursday evening in the summer with regular attendance of 10-12 people of all abilities. You will see the hardened riders out during the winter, wrapped up in a number of layers and wearing tights as ‘winter miles = summer smiles’. Plans are being drawn up for next year and what events we may do - already we have a few signed up for the iconic Liege-Bastogne-Liege sportive in Belgium which precedes the professional rider event - 14,000ft of climbing in 165 miles, and I thought Belgium was flat!

I take this opportunity to wish all our KVC members, families and fellow Kibworth cyclists a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Prosperous and cycle-filled New Year.
