What does the Parish Council Do?
East Langton Parish Council has overall responsibility for the wellbeing of the community in the Parish. Our work falls into three main categories:
• Delivery of services
• Improve quality of life for residents
• Give the community a democratic voice
As well as commenting on planning applications we have updated the Neighbourhood Plan, established a wildflower verge project, installed public seating and dog bins and maintain them along with the public footpaths.
Becoming a Parish Councillor
As a Parish Councillor you can become a voice for our community and make real change. Parish Councillor responsibilities fall into three main categories:
• Decision-making
• Monitoring
• Getting involved locally
We also collaborate with the District and County Councils.
Who can qualify as a Parish Councillor?
To be a Parish Councillor you must be:
• A UK or Commonwealth citizen; or be a citizen of the Republic of Ireland; or be a citizen of another Member State of the European Union
• At least 18 years old
• An elector of the Parish; or in the past 12 months occupied land or other premises in the Parish (as owner or tenant); or work in the Parish (as your principal or only place of work); or live within three miles of the Parish boundary.
Why are we looking for volunteers to join the Parish Council?
This current Parish Council has come to the end of its office (four years) and another has to be appointed. The deadline for volunteers to register to become a councillor is Tuesday 4 April.

What happens if we do not have enough Parish Councillors?
If the Parish Council does not have enough volunteers coming forward the Parish will not have a voice regarding any of the above matters concerning the Parish.
