Gartree Super-Prison
26th June 2023 | Councils
We still await the decision of the Secretary of State for Levelling up, Housing and Communities, Michael Gove, on the appeal by the Ministry of Justice against the refusal of planning permission by Harborough District Council for building of a 1700 inmate prison on the greenfield site at Gartree.
The current delay is the result of new information that has been submitted by Harborough MP Neil O’Brien regarding the threatened bus service and revised prison population forecasts.
The Secretary of State needs more time to consider this information. The decision is now due on or before Monday 3 July.
