Dear Editor – Thank you – John Ruddock

This year I have the honour of being President of Kibworth Bowling Club and my chosen charity is Admiral Nurses, which is being set up by Dementia UK to provide help to those suffering from dementia in the same way that Macmillan do for those affected by cancer.

President’s Day is the main source of income for the designated charity and this has traditionally taken the form of a bowls competition followed by a meal and a raffle. However, as many of the raffle prizes seemed to be items previously won that members did not want, I decided to attempt something different and approached local businesses to ask if they would be kind enough to make a donation of a product or voucher that could then be auctioned.

What a generous response!

So many thanks to Kibworth Books, Deli, House, Fish Bar and Doner Kebab together with Bridge 67, Mercury News, and the Co-operative. There were also donations from the Beauty Room, Hair & Beauty, Striped Pole and Turkish Chop together with a free MOT from Meadowbrook and generous dining out vouchers from the Lighthouse / Boboli and The Crown at Tur Langton.

From Wistow there were contributions from the Cafe, Deli and Outerspace with a super pot of plants from Langton Garden Centre. My friend Brian Hughes offered a bottle of single malt and, as it turned out, best of all was a painting of Kibworth village centre by Robert Lodge which sold for £160!

So, once again, my thanks to you local businesses. The auction raised over £800 for Admiral Nurses.
