What’s Going On? – March 2024

What's going on?

What’s going on?

What’s going on? When renovating The Lighthouse into Lighthouse Indian Paradise, did the painters run out of paint? The upstairs windows seemed to have been overlooked in the rush to open the premises.

And where are the tablecloths which adorned the tables? They seem to have sadly disappeared.

Buses and their timetables

Across the road from the new Indian restaurant, it is noted that a new illuminated ‘leicester buses’ bus stop has been installed. The sign gives the time digitally, but alas, it asks you to consult the paper timetables for the next bus. Oddly, ‘leicester buses’ do not venture as far as Kibworth currently, so do we welcome its installation?

Finally, the bus stop on Leicester Road near to where the Rose and Crown used to be has an interesting timetable. It’s called Raitha’s India Resturant (sic). The misspelling isn’t good and when someone unfamiliar with Kibworth alights here, they could well be looking for an Indian restaurant. Raitha’s closed many years ago and the building has been converted into flats. The previous timetable used to call this stop ‘Rose and Crown’, which closed even further back in time! So unhelpful.

Cricket

The lovely sound of the thwack of willow on leather comes to Kibworth Cricket Club again this year. It has been confirmed that Leicestershire County Cricket Club 1st XI will play a 50 over Royal London One Day Cup match against Surrey Cricket Club at Kibworth Cricket ground on Tuesday 6 August, starting at 11am. Last year’s match was a great match to watch with Leicestershire winning and going forward to the final, where they beat Hampshire by 2 runs! So, Leicestershire are the champions. More details nearer the time.

Kibworth Harcourt Post Mill

National Mills Weekend (NMW) is to be Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May when the now restored mill will be open to visitors. An online booking system for the mill for the NMW will be via SPAB website in due course. Just put the dates in your diary.

Building work has begun

Work has finally commenced on the large house between The Railway and the Old School Surgery. Sadly, this building has been neglected and was desperately in need of a complete overhaul.

Litter picking

Walking around Gumley recently, it was noted that there was a litter pick rota. Two members of a household pick for their given month and then pass on their litter-picking sticks to the next family. Does this happen elsewhere?
