Kibworth Fire Station Meet the Crew
As promised in last month’s article, here is a new feature where readers can get to meet members of the Kibworth On-Call crew and find out more about what we do and what the job entails.
The first subject to be interrogated about their experiences with Leicestershire Fire and Rescue is Kibworth’s newest recruit Adam Joniec (pronounced Yon-Yets).
Join the On-Call Team
Adam joined the On-Call team in November last year and here are his thoughts on his experience so far.
“Hi Adam, thanks for taking the time to speak with us today and for giving us an insight into the life of a firefighter. We’ll start with some more generic questions before finding out about your motivations for joining the Kibworth On-Call Team. Firstly, how long have you lived in Kibworth and what do you like most about the area?”
“I have lived in Kibworth for the best part of five years now. My family and I really enjoy making the most of the local independent cafes, delis and pubs. We also love the sense of community we get from living in the area.”
It’s Enjoyable and Rewarding
“How long have you been part of the On- Call Crew at Kibworth Fire Station?”
“I have been a part of the On-Call Crew at Kibworth Fire Station for almost six months which has flown by as it has been very enjoyable and rewarding.”
“What was your motivation for becoming an On-Call Firefighter?”
“My motivation to join was so I would be able to help people in need and give back to the community. I’m always up for a challenge and as a bonus, I get to keep fit and exercise regularly as part of the job!”
“What do you enjoy most about the job?”
“I enjoy how rewarding the job is and knowing that I am helping to keep the community safe by educating them on fire safety as well as attending emergency situations. We have spent a lot of time recently attending different nurseries and scout groups to help educate the children there on fire safety which has been fun. I’ve also enjoyed getting to know all the staff at Kibworth Fire Station as they have been really welcoming and have helped me out whenever I have needed support!”
“What has been the biggest challenge you have faced in the role?”
“It was difficult at first learning how to juggle my family life, social life, main occupation, and the on-call role, but things quickly fell into place. Plus, everyone on the station is very supportive and encouraging.”
“Do you have any advice to offer someone that is interested in becoming an On-Call Firefighter?”
“Don’t hesitate! You will learn lifesaving skills, grow as a person, and have fun along the way! It is extremely rewarding to be able to help others and you’ll learn so much about yourself in the process.”
If You Feel Inspired Contact the Station
If you are feeling inspired after reading Adam’s words, we are always looking for new members of the On-Call team at Kibworth Station. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please contact the station and we can provide you with more information about the role, the application process and upcoming ‘Have-A-Go’days.
