Kibworth High Street Cob Wall

Several people have approached The Kibworth & District Chronicle to ascertain exactly what is happening to the fenced-off cob wall opposite the Co-op. The pavement has been unusable for several months now.

Readers will be aware that there is a planning application notification affixed to a nearby lamp-post from Harborough District Council. It states that Simon Moger, owner of the house behind the wall is seeking the ‘Erection of gates, partial removal of existing cob wall with replacement timber cart shed/carport with slate roof covering at 70 High Street Kibworth Beauchamp Leicestershire LE8 0HQ’.

The central third or so of the cob wall is to be removed completely and replaced with an oak framed carport and garage. However, the remainder is to be made good and will partially surround the new structures. See 24/00928/FUL. The proposed partial demolition mentioned above has been recommended by a Heritage Impact Assessment Officer as being ‘justified as the only means of retaining historic fabric within a cost viable solution that is appropriate to a structure fronting the highway’.
