Fleckney Spinners
Try Table Tennis for Free
Have you ever tried table tennis? If not, what’s the worst that could happen? All are welcome to come and have a go free of charge at this low cost sport. I see youngsters shivering on the football field these evenings. I’m glad that I play an indoor sport which I can enjoy all year round, flooding permitting!
As coaches, Andy Wright and I are delighted that so many of our ‘coachees’ have joined the Junior and Senior Leagues. James Feakes and youngsters Ethan Li and Lennon Devlin all made their Senior League debuts in mid-September. They were competitive against an experienced Regent Sports team. Well done to both Ethan and Lennon for picking up a win each.
Against Syston Casuals, Fleckney Spinners 3 (F3) Jan Nix and Mike Miles lost an extremely close five setter. Narendra Shah was playing his best table tennis. There was a good battle against Regent Sports 1 in which Fleckney 2 (F2) with Paul Gilmore and Kerry Walters doing us proud.
Nomads 1 played well allowing us to gain a well-earned point. Fleckney 1 (F1) had a good first win against Regent Sports 1. There was a difficult game against the team we expect to win the Division, Knighton Park 15. 12-year-old Lennon Devlin taking two of their players to five games each, and a victory for Lennon and Bob Palmer in the doubles. There was a draw for F2 against Winstanley Wizards with Paul Gilmore winning all his matches and Mike Wilson one of his. A victory in the doubles secured a draw for the Spinners.
Senior League
There were eight players playing in the Senior Leicester League for the first time this season. Together with five ‘coachee’ juniors playing in the Junior League reflects great credit on everyone involved and the club. The League is very competitive and each Division is tough at its own level.
It was a debut in the Senior League for 10 year old Omar Morsy. With adult team-mates Rob Logan and James Feakes, also new to the Senior League, had a tough evening against KP13 with a 0/10 loss, but all players are progressing well. Omar in particular shows a huge amount of promise. It was clearly not our night as F3 lost against a talented young team from KP13. Jan Nix did, however, taste victory over one of them, and all three won a game at some point in the evening. Jack Feakes, Ethan Li, Danny Barker, Max Hubbard and Dillon Kearny are practising hard ahead of their first Junior League match on 9 November.
