Welcome to Autumn
We hope everyone had an enjoyable summer in spite of the unusually wet weather.
Summer can be a challenging time at The Well. Volunteers (quite rightly!) have holidays and spend time with their families. We must jiggle the rotas in the café, clothes shop and foodbank, but we always get there in the end.
Donations & Food Bank
As I write, I’m surrounded by bags of harvest donations from churches in and around Kibworth for our foodbank. We are deeply grateful. It really helps us to re-stock shelves ahead of the annual increase in demand as days shorten, become cooler & heating goes on. With the increase in fuel price cap, vulnerable households have to make the choice between heating and eating. Rural Community Award Runner Up
We give thanks to those that work the land all year to provide the food for our tables. Thursday 3 October saw a small group of us visting the Rural Community Council’s centenary awards. Held at Winstanley House in Leicester. We were shortlisted for the ‘Community Service Award (large community)’ along with only two other county organisations. Unfortunately, we didn’t receive the award this time. However, as we were one of only 22 organisations shortlisted from over 200 nominations across all categories from Leicestershire and Rutland, we feel that that was a win in itself. There’s always next year!
Just for Fun
We’ve been running a little ‘just for fun’ competition.Who could get a photo of themselves with one of our useful tote bags in the most unusual and/or furthest point from The Well. So far, Hannah and Sophie are in the lead having taken bags all the way to Sydney, Australia! Well done girls.
The bags are still available to buy from our pre-loved clothes shop for just £2, or free with a total spend of £20 in one transaction. Every bag sold helps to fund the services we provide to the community – thank you to everyone who has already bought theirs.
