Telraam Traffic Sensors Update
For those readers who remain concerned about the speeding traffic along the A6 and the volume of traffic in other parts of the village, I thought it is a good opportunity to let you know that five out of six Telraam traffic sensors have been deployed by the Parish Council and the devices are now counting.
These sensors can detect and count different types of vehicles, (including pedestrians), the direction of travel and approximate speed. All the data is available publicly with a 15 minute delay.
You can find the network overview for Kibworth here: bit.ly/kibworthcount or use the QR code.
Current sensors are deployed at the following locations:
- On the A6 near the Coach and Horses bit.ly/kibwortha6
- On the High Street bit.ly/kibworthhighstreet
- On Fleckney Road near the fire station bit.ly/kibworthfleckneyroad
- On New Road near The Swan bit.ly/kibworthnewroad
- On Smeeton Road bit.ly/kibworthsmeetonroad
Initial data confirms that a large volume of traffic is passing through the village, both on the A6 and elsewhere. The A6 is particularly bad, showing excessive speeds and virtually no pedestrians or two wheelers.
The Smeeton Road sensor shows the extent of the spikes in traffic for school drop off and pick up. The data capture will continue for 12 months and one sensor is yet to be deployed; potentially being installed near the business park on the A6 to cover an area outside the 30mph zone.
Ways to improve the situation are hard to come by but it appears obvious that measures to reduce motor traffic are badly needed.
Hopefully these can be discussed on another occasion.
