Let Your Light Shine

Children at Kibworth CE Primary School live out the school value ‘Let Your Light Shine’ in so many ways. Most recently, Sophie, one of the Year 6 children, came up with a fantastic idea!

She invited all the KS1 and KS2 children to decorate a Christmas dove in return for bringing a food donation into school. She then artfully arranged all the doves on a Christmas tree at the recent Burton Overy Christmas Tree Festival. ‘The True Meaning of Christmas’ was a delight to behold and the food donations were passed to The Well to support our local community over the coming festive period.

We are proud of Sophie and the support she has shown for our village. It just goes to show we can all shine our lights and be a beacon for our community!

Learning at Kibworth CE Primary School

Year 5 have really enjoyed their topic ‘Scream Machine’ this half term! We have been learning all about different forces (gravity, friction, air resistance and water resistance) and how they can influence rollercoasters. In our science experiments, we investigated which objects would experience the most air and water resistance. We have learnt that objects with a greater surface area will have more resistance! Working collaboratively in small groups, we created a foam rollercoaster with a loop-the-loop. We had to use our understanding of gravity, friction, potential energy, kinetic energy and momentum to create a track with a loop-the-loop. The highest part of the rollercoaster had to be at the start and the loop-the-loop had to be at the end of the decline. This was important so the marble on the track would have enough momentum to go around the loop! We are excited to design, make and evaluate our own rollercoasters in DT over the next few weeks!
