Kibworth Community Library – Jan 2025

“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow”– Albert Einstein

Everybody has heard of Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, E = mc2. Some of us can even sing along to it. But very few of us know what it actually means. He showed that space and time grow and shrink relative to one another in order to keep the speed of light constant for the observer. Based on his theory, when we travel through space, time moves a tiny bit slower. At incredible speeds, like the speed of light, time stands still.
Janus, who January is named for, is the Roman god of time, and also doorways, passages and endings. He is depicted with two faces, one looking back, the other looking forward. January can be a time for reflection and new beginnings. Albert’s quote above is very fitting for this time of year.
We will be reflecting on the past in a series of talks being held in the library for our Local History Season. It starts this month with a talk about Kibworth Harcourt Post Mill – Past and Present, on Thursday 30 January. For more information, please see the separate article here.
We are back to our usual calendar after the Christmas break. Our groups have restarted and our February Book Sale will be on Saturday 8 February. Great quality and value as always.
Volunteers needed!
Our Children’s Story and Rhyme Time is great fun but we would love to have some more volunteers to help run it. If you are experienced with small children, love to tell stories and have a sing along, then you would be perfect! It would only need half an hour or so every few weeks. Please get in touch on volunteering@kibworthcommunity.org.uk
As the weather has taken a turn for the worse, please don’t forget that we offer free hot drinks to anyone who comes into the library. See our opening hours below. You will be made to feel very welcome and it’s always nice and warm!
