Kibworth & District u3a – Feb 2025

It was a packed house at Kibworth Grammar School Hall / Kibworth Community Hub in January. Kibworth & District u3a Chairman, Chris Bradburn, welcomed 105 members and 6 visitors to the u3a Annual General Meeting.

Our local u3a would not be able to function without the army of helpers. Committee members, group leaders and all the wonderful people that give up their time to muck in with all the other activities needed. Chris wholeheartedly thanked them all.

Kibworth’s u3a was started some 18 years ago in February 2007. Frank Griffiths, along with a small team of enthusiastic volunteers, realised his ambition and launched the Kibworth & District u3a. Its aim was enabling older people to engage in a wide variety of cerebral, physical, creative and fun activities. Our local organisation has gone from strength to strength, with some 30 activity groups, ranging from Badminton to Bridge, Pub Darts to Painting and Poetry to Practical Gardening.

In 2024, the Photography Group created a Photo Trail. A range of marvellous photos that had been taken of Kibworth people and places, and exhibited them in shop windows. A high quality book was also produced (copies of which are still for sale – £3 each).

The Third Tuesday Socials, held at the Community Hub, continue to be popular. The January AGM was honoured to be visited by Baroness Thatcher who gave us a humorous insight into her career. (She might have had something to do with the high turnout, but we won’t go there, eh?).
