Kibworth Mead Academy update

This half term has been a busy one at KMA.

Year 11 have returned from the Christmas break with a diligent and focussed attitude as they prepare for the final runup to their GCSE exams. They have impressed us with their hard work and dedication in and out of lessons. With an extensive programme of revision sessions available every day after school, the typical Year 11 student now voluntarily attends at least two hours of after school sessions per week, in addition to their own homework and independent revision. In addition to this, many students choose to stay until 5pm to work in our library. Finally, we are particularly proud of the ex-Year 11 students who have chosen to come back to KMA to support their younger peers by delivering maths peer tutoring.

Sports

Kibworth Mead continues to excel in its sporting fixtures. Our Year 7/8 girls’ football team recently triumphed in Round 2 of the National Cup at Ratcliffe College. Match reports stated that the football played by KMA was sublime, scoring goals through terrific teamwork and well executed passing moves. As the Kibworth & District Chronicle goes to print, the girls are preparing for the third round, which is a home game against Moulton school.

Theatre

Meanwhile, in Performing Arts there is a frenzy of excitement in all year groups, as the rehearsals for ‘Matilda’ are well and truly underway with very enthusiastic singing coming from the drama studio after school. Watch out when ticket sales go live for the performances on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 April at the Kibworth Community Hub.

Community

This term we have also welcomed more opportunities to work alongside the local community. Year 7 have recently enjoyed visiting St Wilfrid’s church, Kibworth, as part of their Religious Studies work on Christianity. Representatives from local businesses and organisations have been generous in giving up their time to support our Speed Networking events, where they meet small groups of our students to discuss their careers. And finally, volunteers from the Rotary Club are so generous in visiting KMA each week to listen to our students read. We would like to thank all our community partners for working alongside us to support our young people.
