Unsolicited praise

Dear Editor,

I write as a resident of a Nottingham care home and now in his 96th year. My daughter lives in Kibworth Beauchamp and maintains a busy life as a grandmother as well as supporting village groups and events.

When she visits me, gifts will always include latest issues of the Kibworth & District Chronicle which I find so interesting. The embracement of some 26 villages, set in the lush Leicestershire countryside enables them to record their local events and news. Most remarkably it is delivered free of charge to all addresses and produced entirely by volunteers.

Kibworth is the exception to many places being a flourishing village of historical significance and with a good range of shops, general facilities and community activities.

Last year, a reader’s letter raised the topic of ‘Bench Marks’, to be seen etched into structures such as church walls. An arrowhead is accompanied by a figure which denotes the location height above sea level.  Knowing a couple who are keen on outdoor pursuits I sent them a cutting so that they could add a further pastime to their one of solving geocache puzzles.  The influence of the Chronicle can spread further than you might imagine! All in all lives would be poorer without it, certainly less well informed.

I extend my best wishes to the sterling teams of volunteers involved in its production.
