Kibworth & Fleckney Rotary Club

Contributing to Volunteering across the community

Following on from the editorial comment in the January edition of the Kibworth & District Chronicle about volunteering, which quite rightly highlighted the importance of voluntary groups in our community. Volunteers are a vital part of society giving their time and effort to provide service, education and entertainment.

These groups frequently highlight and help the disadvantaged amongst us. Why do they do it?  More often than not, it is for the positive feedback they get from the folk they serve, giving some true meaning in their lives and a sense of achievement. At the same time they enjoy being part of a like-minded group of volunteers.

Volunteering can reduce stress, combat loneliness and improve overall mental health. It is an opportunity to engage in activities or causes they are passionate about, outside their regular routine. Each person’s reasons for volunteering are unique and often reflect their life stage, interests and personal experiences.

Not mentioned in the January issue was the Kibworth & Fleckney Rotary Club, which was founded in 1987 and has provided 37 years of voluntary service to our community.

Over those years the male and female members of the Rotary Club have been involved with many projects and fundraising initiatives and they have benefited a huge number in our community.

Below are just a few examples:-

Rainbows Children’s Hospice, LOROS,  Laura Centre, VASL, Prostaid, Air Ambulance, The WELL(Kibworth), St Wilfid’s Kibworth (Children’s equipment), Food Banks, Scouts and Guides, Admiral Nurses(Dementia UK), Leicester Musical Memory Box. The Squire Effect (Market Harborough), TwentyTwenty (Young people’s charity Leicester) Blood bikes. Coping with Cancer. Cerebral Palsy Sports. Purchase of an adapted vehicle for a local family.

There were many more smaller projects but the above are the significant ones. Further info on the charities we support can be found online.

So, the Kibworth and Fleckney Rotary Club, which is part of a huge Rotary network worldwide, has had a very beneficial effect on our local community and further afield.

As was suggested in the Chronicle’s article, most of the local voluntary groups would welcome more volunteers with open arms, the Rotary Club would definitely agree with that. So, if you’re interested in joining our club please drop me a line. As I said at the beginning , volunteering can be good for you, and we are a friendly crowd!
