Year 5 Young Leaders

Year 5 has been busy working on the Archbishop’s Young Leaders Award to teach them how to be strong leaders who can drive change. The final part of this award is to complete a sustainability project. Year 5 has introduced ‘Super Shoesday.  Walk to and from school every Tuesday!’

We launched on Tuesday 18 March. To excite and motivate the school, children could wear their trainers if they walked, cycled or scootered into school! This was a great opportunity to get everyone involved in our project. It was fantastic to see the whole school engaging with and helping Year 5 make a difference.

Year 5’s key target is reducing carbon emissions. They have surveyed every class to find out how children travelled to school before and after the launch date.

Year 5 also lead a very important assembly about road safety. As well as educating the school about how to travel to school safely, they also reminded children that this project means fewer cars near our school which keeps us all safe.

Have a look at the charts below to see how Year 5 has made a difference with reducing Kibworth Primary School’s carbon emissions!

Year 6 visit Warning Zone

On Wednesday 26 March, Year 6 went to the Warning Zone. At the Warning Zone, we went to different zones that taught us about how to keep safe online and offline. Bullying; strangers; car and road safety; gangs and much more. At around quarter to twelve, it was lunch time. We sat at the tables in groups and had a break.

After a while of resting and reloading we headed off into our groups (avocados, strawberries, and raspberries etc.) with our afternoon team guides. A warehouse full of excitement and wonder awaited us where we got an experience of an e-safety carnival. It was a blast! We learnt about online phishing with actual fishing rods; grooming via a game of ‘Guess Who’ and our knowledge was then tested by a game of ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’ It was a day full of fun and learning. We have taken so much from it!
