The Victory Bells Rang Out for the Original VE Day
Some readers may not know that during World War II long before the formation of the Kibworth & District Chronicle there existed The Kibworth News and Forces’ Journal. No.1 was published in 1944. In 1945, issue No 2 was sent free to all those serving in His Majesty’s Forces. It is subtitled Vth Birthday and Victory Number.
Those who were not serving in the Forces were expected to pay 1/, for a copy. (Ask your grandparents what this amount is today.)
The back page of the 48 page booklet says:
“We hope you will not need the “NEWS” (as it was called) from Kibworth anymore.”

Mr Kenneth Babington Kichener Macaulay, lived in Stourport-on-Severn. When he wrote this poem however, he was a native of (Main Street) Kibworth, where his father, Dr Thomas Babington Macaulay (1832 – 1897), was a noted surgeon for over 50 years.
