Scouts.
The history of scouting in Kibworth.
Scouting has been in the Kibworths for a long time. It came here shortly after the movements creation in 1907, By 1912 there were a number of groups in the Market Harborough district which included 1st Kibworth.
Our founder insisted that we be known as a movement and not an organisation as scouts continues to move forward and adapt.
Over 100 years in Kibworth.
This has proven to be true as scouting continues in the Kibworths over 100 years later, and as strong and popular as ever, with over 120 young people taking part in adventurous activities and learning skills for life each week.
We’re extremely proud of our long history and to have been part of our community for such a great length of time. We have continued to move and adapt in times of crisis. From playing our part in the village war effort during both world wars to the present day. We’ve continued our activities on online via zoom, keeping the spirit of adventure alive. Bringing cheer to the village with a visit from Santa and supporting village fun days.
As restrictions begin to ease we are pleased to begin meeting back face to face once again as government rules now allow.
Ou and about again soon.
We will be centring this terms programme outdoors as much as possible. If you see us around the village please give as a wave but don’t be alarmed as we’re allowed to meet in groups of more than six.

HQ update.
Our HQ is much loved and definitely well used. It is known to all as the ‘scout hut’. It has been treated to some much deserved and long overdue maintenance during the Covid lockdown.
As the scouts and guides have not been able to meet indoors for over a year now, the hut stood eerily quiet for some time before a plan was put together for its repair.
Damp issues.
Damp had become a huge issue over the last couple of years with lower bricks saturated with moisture and starting to crumble, and as it stood empty mould started to show.
We damp-proofed and thoroughly washed all the walls with specialist cleaner. The front exterior render was repaired and bottom edges tided up.
New kitchen.
Our kitchen was old, tired and falling to bits, it had definitely served us very well but no longer a place fit for young people to learn to cook or bake. So a total strip out was necessary, before installation of a commercial non slip floor and full stainless kitchen, with range cooker.
Our trusted heating system was given a full service and rewired with new controls.
A full updated fire assessment means the guides can now organise sleepovers at the hut meaning they have somewhere to stay locally without having to travel.
Finally after lots of work treating the walls, laying new floors and plastering, the interior was fully redecorated with only the exterior now to receive a coat of new paint in the coming weeks.
A fantastic facility now.
The hut is a fantastic facility that’s been a life line to offering scouting and guiding in Kibworth and we’re delighted to have been able to make these improvements and give our young people a warm, safe and totally awesome place to meet.
Our hut can be hired by groups, please contact join@1stkibworth.org.uk for more details.
