Fleckney and Kibworth Running Club
Report – Summer 2021
Leicestershire Road Running League
There have been 3 further races in the Reunion League since our last update. Race 2 in the series was the Joy Cann 5 Mile race hosted by Huncote Harriers. Ten club members were in a field of over 500, with a trio of Ladies leading the way, Lorna Muskett, Abby Davies and Bernadette Owen (1st in Age Category.) The men’s contingent saw Kirit Patel back first, with John Redfearn, Alan Gibson, Jamie Owen and Andy Kemp also completing. Emma Boyd and League Race debutant Tracey Coates made up the Ladies Team.
Launde 6 race
Next up was the Launde 6 race, with around 350 runners tackling the challenging hilly course around Launde Abbey and Loddington. The club had 11 representatives for this one, Lorna Muskett again taking the honours in a time of 47:50. Bernadette Owen managed to finish ahead of Abby Davies this time, and again took her Age Group 1st place. Jim Hawley was first to finish for the men in a time of 52:24, followed closely by Kirit Patel and Mike Turner. Alan Gibson, Patrick Amos on his first race for the club, and John Redfearn made up the men’s team finishers, with Emma Boyd and Tracey Coates completing for the Ladies
Desford 5 race
The latest race in the series was at Desford for their popular 5 mile road race on the undulating lanes around Kirkby Mallory and Peckleton. A warm and sunny day made conditions less than ideal but there will still some great performances from our Club members. Lorna Muskett took 37th place overall in the Ladies race with a time of 38:13. Abby Davies and Bernadette Owen swapped positions again for 2nd and 3rd respectively. This time it was Barbara Blunt making her debut in the green and gold vest, Emma Boyd kept up her 100% appearance record in the League so far, and Louise Faye completed the Ladies line-up. Only 2 men made the start line for this one, with Kirit Patel first back and Alan Gibson.
We only have provisional results from Desford but the likelihood is that the Club will finish 3rd in the Pool, just missing out on a place in the Grand Final at the end of September.
Peak Raid Series
Very much off the tarmac, Sam Pole has been competing in the Peak Raid MapRun Series throughout the Summer months, taking on a number of events where runners have a time limit to clock as many checkpoints as possible. Over 300 runners took part in the events, some returning back several times to improve their score, so a Top 10 finish for Sam was a fantastic achievement.
Our regular Club Nights are Tuesday (Fleckney or Saddington) and Thursday (Kibworth), meeting at 6.45 for 7pm. All levels of experience and pace are welcome
