Burton Overy Village Show, Sept 2021
Our traditional Burton Overy Village Show went ahead on Saturday 4 September.
With Covid in mind, we had sanitisers at the entrance and a one-way system through the hall. With all windows and doors wide open, we were able to enjoy a community event once again.
We had 50 entrants with entries ranging from knitting and pottery to fruit scones, cakes and jams. As well as specimen flowers, the largest marrow and tallest sunflower.
Certificates and trophies were awarded and exhibits viewed while folk had a cuppa and a piece of cake on a beautiful sunny day.
The Children’s Section
There is a children’s section and sisters Hebe and Romilly Gutteridge got 1st and 2nd in the class
‘Painting/Drawing of Burton Overy’. Charlotte Dyer won two classes including a unique Lego model to her design that the judge described as “Beautifully linked and original”. Charlotte therefore won the Children’s cup.
Local Farmer’s son, George Barbour, aged 9, remarkably won the Alan Chandler trophy in the Adult section of the garden produce, for the sweet corn he had grown.
The Tallest Sunflower
The Tallest Sunflower had a huge impact as you entered the hall, at a magnificent ten and a half feet tall! This enormous specimen was grown by a welcome newcomer to the village, Nick Cave.
The Show raised £400 towards the upkeep of the hall.
