New Crisis Café in Market Harborough
The Market Harborough Crisis Café at The Symington Building is open to anyone who feels they would benefit from some mental health support. Call in on Wednesdays whether you are feeling lonely or anxious. Call in if you are finding it hard to manage difficult feelings or situations.
The drop-in service will offer a safe space for those who are struggling. Space is also provided for one-to-one sessions where you can learn practical coping strategies.
Open Wednesday from 12noon to 8pm
The café is provided in partnership between Turning Point and the Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. Recently launched on Wednesday 22 September, Crisis Café will be open without appointments from 12 noon to 8 pm. Find us every Wednesday at The Symington Building, on Adam and Eve Street in Market Harborough.
Karen Russell-Haines, Services Manager at Turning Point, reported: “The last year has put a great strain on our mental health and it’s vital we have easy access to services. Already we provide a wide range of services across Leicestershire. These include a crisis house, a mental health helpline, and drug and alcohol treatment services. We are looking forward to extending our mental health services to support the people of Market Harborough.”
Talk to someone who can listen
Rosie Klair, Project Lead, Urgent Care and Access Pathway at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, said: “We are delighted to be opening a Crisis Café in Market Harborough. Recently delivered by our partners Turning Point, this café will provide a place where people can come to talk to someone who is trained to listen and offer support. Additionally, this café and the many more that we intend to open across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, will complement our 24 hours a day, seven days a week phone support line. Furthermore our phone line also offers support to anyone in urgent mental health need.”
Offering a safe space for help
Cllr Simon Whelband, Harborough District Councils Cabinet Lead for Well-being and Communities, said: “I’m really pleased to welcome the Crisis Café to The Symington Building in Market Harborough, so, the importance of looking after our mental, as well as physical health, cannot be underestimated. We need to remove the stigma surrounding mental health. The new Crisis Café offers people a safe and welcoming space. A space where they can get help and support if they are experiencing a mental health crisis. I’d like to thank Turning Point, Leicestershire Partnership Trust and Harborough District Council for delivering this service in Market Harborough.”
