Kibworth Beauchamp Parish Council
The parish council does not hold a public meeting in December as the fourth Tuesday falls within the Christmas period. However, the parish council staff, councillors and volunteers have been very active since November on parish council funded business.
Tuesday Evening Youth Activities
Youth activities. The Free Sessions held on Tuesday evenings during the autumn were funded by both Kibworth Parish Councils and run by Fiesta Sports Coaching. They were held in the Grammar School Hall, off School Road and went really well with children aged from 7 to 12 enjoying a variety of indoor activities.
The original objective was to include older teenagers for the second evening session. This proved to be unnecessary. So, it was agreed to open both sessions up to the younger group. The free sessions start again on Tuesday evenings from 18 January until 1 March, except 15 February (half-term).
There are two sessions each evening 5.15-6.15, and 6.15-7.15.
All sessions need to be booked in advance by a parent or guardian on the www.fiestasportscoaching.co.uk website. The varied activities include football, archery, basketball, racquet skills, dodgeball and others.
Successful Christmas Event
Christmas event on 8 December – Councillors and other volunteers helped with the stewarding at this very successful event, which included part of the High Street being closed to traffic. In addition to the wide variety of stalls set up along High Street, both the community library and village hall had activities and more stalls.
Several High Street shops remained open providing seasonal refreshments and a tombola raised money for the local GEMS charity.
Harborough FM provided music all evening and, in addition to dancing from young children, the gospel choir from Emmanuel Apostolic Gospel Academy (EAGA) sang carols to an appreciative audience.
Our thanks to MJB Support Services for overseeing the organisation of the event this year and providing signs for the road closure and first aid support.
The Kibworth Fire Station again provided a fire engine for children to explore, and it was good to have a police presence. There will be a follow up meeting to review the event and hopefully start planning for the 2022 event.
Christmas Lights and Volunteers
Christmas lights – a group of volunteers, and council staff installed over 45 small Christmas trees provided by the parish council on 4/5 December in the existing stanchions on properties agreeing to have them along Station Street, High Street and Fleckney Road. Each tree had a set of lights fitted, after first having new batteries installed! Lights were also put up on The Bank roundabout after the bushes had been cut back.
We are very grateful to these volunteers climbed the ladders and installed the trees and lights: Mark Peberdy, Felicity Peberdy, Colin Tennant, Ian Menzies, Cameron Menzies, Luke Farnworth, Freddie Stagg and Darren Darkins.
We are also very grateful to those who helped take them all down on 3 January and removed the lights to be checked and used again next year including Mark Peberdy, Darren Darkins, Dylan Vidion, Kevin Feltham, the deputy clerk and clerk.
Quotations for Open Space Strategy
Open Space Strategy – follow up work on some of the aspects of the strategy are being undertaken. This includes obtaining quotations for clearing out and restoring the pond on Rookery Close park, seeking quotations to improve the inclusivity of play area equipment, organising tree surveys for two of the parks, and obtaining quotations for a zip wire in Warwick Park.
All quotations will be discussed and then recommendations brought to both parish councils for the next stages and funding being sought.
As advertised in the December Chronicle, there is an additional public parish council meeting on 11 January to approve the budget for 2022/23.

The next monthly public meeting is on 25 January in the Studio at Kibworth Grammar School Hall.
