News from the School Road Chapel
2021 was the 175th Anniversary of Kibworth Methodist Church which opened in 1846, replacing another methodist chapel which had opened as long ago as 1790. The present church was enlarged in 1874 to incorporate new school rooms at the back. These are still in use in 2022.
Kibworth Methodist Pre-School meets inside and outside using its three open spaces, five days a week. The local branch of the U3A (University of the 3rd Age) operates its arts and crafts Groups on the premises.
On a cold Sunday in mid-December 2021 around 60 adults, children and three dogs, gathered on the forecourt to see the temporary ‘Inn’, drink hot chocolate, and hear the’ Innkeeper,’ Rev Andy Murphy, share the tale of the events that he witnessed 2,000 years ago.
When a baby is born, methodists still like to welcome it into the church family through baptism, also known as christening. Did you know that these days we also offer as alternatives? These are naming ceremonies, thanksgivings, dedications, baptisms for older children or adults, and thanksgivings for adoptions. When you welcome a new child into your family and are planning a celebration, why not consider incorporating a service of thanksgiving at the same time? Contact Rev Andy Murphy using the details on our website to discuss a very special and personal service for you and your family.
