Our tribute to the great man – Kelvin Capell
We would like to thank the Capell family for asking for donations to GEMS Charity instead of flowers in memory of Kelvin. We have received the final payment making the total amount £1687.17. This is incredible, and shows how well thought of he was.
Kelvin was a great supporter of GEMS and had been heavily involved from the start of the charity back in 2012.
As most of you know Kelvin ran The King’s Head at Smeeton with his business partner Anne for many years. We have carried out many fundraising events there.
Whenever we came up with an idea and asked Anne and Kelvin if it was possible to do it at the pub, Kelvin would always reply “Of course you can m’duck”, then proceeded to get very involved in every event to make the charity as much money as possible and maximising the enjoyment for the guests.
Kelvin came up with many ideas of his own to raise money for GEMS. I think he will be best known for his hanging baskets and plants sales. Even while we were all under Covid restrictions he still managed to raise over £2000.
With this in mind we are hoping Smeeton Open Gardens will be able to take place again this year on Sunday 3 July and would like it to be in Kelvin’s memory.
Coming down to The King’s Head is still a pleasure for all the locals, however being greeted with “You alright m’duck” is greatly missed. However seeing his beloved plants coming into bud brings a smile to our faces.
Kelvin was a lovely, kind-hearted friend and person … we will miss you Kelv.
With love and many thanks for what you have achieved for us.
