Great Illston on the Hill Bake Off!
WI members brought ingredients for scones to mix, bake and present for judging. Straight forward one would think – well please think again!
When weighing out and gathering my bowls, cutters, baking sheets, etc. at home I thought this is like my old domestic science lessons. We all arrived with our baskets of goodies, thinking we were well organised.
Someone had put on the ovens, so after mixing and a lot of chatter and laughter, the scones were offered to the furnace!
Like the Bake Off programme, we all jostled for position to see through the glass oven door – “I think mine are ready”; “No don’t open the door!”
Eventually, a rich variety of scones was laid out on the table. The idea was try everyone’s offering, but, after about five we were all decidedly full.
All the results were excellent so everyone was a winner on this really great evening.
Note in your diary our Christmas Coffee morning at Illston Village Hall on Saturday 24 November 10am-13.30pm. Lots of stalls, bacon butties, etc. Admission free.
