Kibworth Rambling Group – Foxton to Debdale Wharf

This is a lovely and varied short walk, ideal, on this occasion, for a lively cocker spaniel called Bobby.
Parking in a small off-road parking area opposite The Black Horse pub and below St Andrew’s Church, in the charming village of Foxton, we walked down Main Street over the Grand Union Canal and turned right into North Lane.
Rounding the first bend in the road take the footpath sign posted just after the house on your left. This path takes you across fields and through a small copse to the canal tow path. Turn right here and walk the towpath for 1 mile until you reach Debdale Lane and Debdale Wharf.
Follow the towpath under and immediately up onto Debdale Lane. Walk down the Lane past a footpath sign to your left and a little further on the next footpath sign.
The footpath takes you back up the field to skirt a small holding – make sure your dog is on a lead as there are usually livestock in this field. Look for the familiar yellow post about halfway down the hedgerow at the opposite side of the field. (There is another signposted path which takes you back to the canal, but you don’t want to take this one.)
The footpath is now straight across several fields bearing crops, but the paths are clear. After almost 1 mile you reach Fisher Farm, on the outskirts of Foxton. As you approach the farm the mapped path deviates left around the farm buildings and exits on to North Lane.
Turn right, walk along North Lane, following the curve of the ‘road’ back to Main Street, the canal bridge and your car. The Black Horse is a great and convenient place to stop for lunch. It’s dog friendly and now also has a Tearoom.
