Fleckney Cricket Club Autumn 2020 update
Thanks to all things Covid it has been a truncated Cricket season for Fleckney Village Cricket Club. Both Saturday sides played in the Covid Cup Mini League and our Midweek and Sunday sides playing a host of friendlies.
Our 1st Team, led by Adam Chilton, managed to win their group despite an opening day defeat to Uppingham 2nds. They beat the University of Leicester Staff 2nds in a home semi-final. However they went down to Barkby United 3rds in a close match on the 12 September by 14 runs.
Star players included Sam Payne, 140 v Barkby United in the league – 296 runs in total. Skipper Adam Chilton managed 220 runs, and with the ball Jimmy Loomes took 20 wickets. Mark Harris 13, and Jason Nicholson 12 – lots of key contributions from all involved.
The 2nds were also in a mini league but had a tougher time of things, managing one victory against Ashby Carington. There were however many positives as the youngsters were given their chances. Max Potter took his first steps towards captaincy. Dave Stribling hit the winning runs against Carington. Sam Hill outscored his dad Chris, on numerous occasions. Sam also bowled well and currently sits fifth in the club MVP award for the season.
Our Sunday side have had a decent campaign, a few wins, a few defeats, but a good time was had by all. Andy Holmes scored 5 50s and a 49 to top the batting averages with a healthy 118.67 and also the top run scorer with 356. We also had a midweek team who played plenty of games and made a lot of friends across the county.
We are already looking forward to 2021. James Sheath
