Kibworth Velo Club update
The Kibworth Velo Club continues to thrive in these unprecedented times! Until early November we were able to do socially-distanced Group Rides of 6 people; our regular Sunday club runs go to lovely cafes for coffee & cake (or bacon rolls). We also continued our Thursday evening rides; night rides are fun and we enjoy a social catch up at the Clubhouse (Boboli) over a beer and pizza from the lovely Sarah Poli. Since lockdown restarted, we are restricted to riding in pairs – we ride the same routes but 10 mins apart. The weather has been kind but the roads are very wet and muddy meaning our bike cleaning skills have been put to good use!
Zwift subscription
Club riders are increasingly embracing Zwift – this is an online game which connects to a ‘smart’ trainer. You connect your bike to the trainer and the app sychronises with it – it allows us to ride from the comfort of our own home when the weather turns bad or the roads go icy.
There are millions using Zwift worldwide. It’s meant we can do Group rides virtually (12 of us the other night!). There are lots of training programmes so it’s a great way to get fitter, improving speed, power and endurance in preparation for Spring. Zwift subscription is £12 per month so much cheaper than the well-advertised Peloton. If you want to join a Zwift ride, check out our Facebook page!
Challenging Year
It’s been a challenging year for everyone but I take this opportunity to wish residents of Kibworth and the surrounding community a Happy New Year. Hopefully normality will return later in 2021. With it, a renewed sense of hope and purpose. The Velo Club is 4 years old in February (2021) and it’s been amazing to watch it grow and develop!
