CHARITY SONG FOR HOME-START SNOWDROP APPEAL 2021.
(4th January to 28th February)
The Snowdrop Appeal is the winter fundraiser for local family support charity Home-Start South Leicestershire. This year, for the first time ever the appeal has a charity song, created by local singer/songwriter Bob Renwick. It is available to download from “Bandcamp” for a donation.
Help with the problems of becoming new parents.
Families helped by the charity face difficulties both as new parents, and as parents with complex situations in their lives. These range from financial crises, managing mental or physical ill health, and living with disabilities.
Margaret Kallow, chair of the charity Trustee Board reports, “We chose the snowdrop for the appeal because this delicate winter flower is often viewed as a symbol of hope and resilience.”
Help during the pandemic
Warm, non-judgement, emotional and practical help is central to the services given by both Home-Start staff and its large team of volunteers. The charity has creatively adapted its services to keep helping families throughout the pandemic.It is using Facebook, Youtube and virtual contact, calls to keep in touch, as well as delivering essential goods, activity packs for children and festive treats.
A long history of helping, but donations are needed.
Stella Renwick, Charity Development Manager said, “Over the past 36 years the charity has helped over 3,500 families for a cost of as little as £15 per child, per week. But we do rely on donations from the public to help us, as funding from other sources has both reduced, and become increasingly competitive. Small, local charities like ours are finding it difficult to survive. We are not guaranteed any funding from local or national government sources.”

The charity hopes to hit a target of £1,000 by the end of February, which will give 10 families a month of support.
