Centenary Double Celebration
East Langton Parish Council feel very honoured to have been chosen by Leicester University to be one of one hundred war memorials they have been visiting since 2018. This was on their ‘Poppy Pilgrimage’ in commemoration of 100 years since the founding of the University.
Our own war memorial in Church Langton is also 100 years old this year. East Langton Parish Council arranged for a group of children from Church Langton Primary School to be present on Tuesday 2 November. The Head of School, Leah Harrison and a bugler, Keith Britcliffe, were also there when Nicola Mirams from Leicester University laid their wreath
Residents from East, West and Church Langton attended. All three villages lost soldiers in the First World War and are named on the memorial. After Chair of the Parish Council, Roz Folwell, read the names of the fallen the ‘Last Post’ was sounded and the pupils read a war poem.
Parish Councillors have also created a wall of poppies for residents to tie poppies onto with the names of those who served. It is hoped to have all one hundred poppies tied on for Remembrance Sunday.
