The Chronicle is saddened to learn of the passing of three Kibworth or Smeeton characters:
Bill Spicknell – one time firefighter at Kibworth Fire Station died on 3 December. He was a supporter of the Chronicle and regularly paid for a special colour ‘advert’ to appear on the back page of our December editions. This was when the Chronicle was 99% printed in black and white. The sentence he would proclaim, “Jesus is the reason for the season.”
Kelvin Capell – part owner, with Anne Charlton, of the homely pub, The Kings Head at Smeeton Westerby. Besides running the pub with Anne, Kelvin grew and sold lots of plants for GEMS charity.
Betty Thorpe – a former teacher and long time member of Kibworth Methodist Church in School Lane. Betty lived on New Road and many years ago regularly put on garden parties.
Our condolences go to their families and friends.

Sign of the times?
Have you ever thought what the traffic sign – NEW ROAD LAYOUT AHEAD – is for?
Surely, when paying attention to the road and it’s various signs etc. Do you need to be told the layout has changed?
Highway Code
Following on from the item above I am sure many of your readers are aware that a new version of the best selling Highway Code is to be published next month. The government has been working on this updated version for a number of years and there are a number of changes that citizens need to be familiar with, if you are a pedestrian, a cyclist or a motorist. Better to be safe than sorry.
