A Caveman Laments
me think about her when sun rise
me think about her when sun set
me tell her me in love with her
she tell me love not invent yet
me make cave all warm and cosy
me lie soft bearskin on cave floor
me play song of love on bone flute
she choose cave of Tim next door
me miss now when me throw spear
rest of hunt not want me along
me draw her picture on cave wall
she say me got perspective wrong
me cook her meal to show me love
roast diplodocus with fried beans
she say me anachronistic
me not know what this means
me think about her when sun rise
me think about her when sun set
me tell her me in love with her
she tell me love not invent yet
Homo Unrequitus
Brian Bilston
Brian – described as the ‘Poet Laureate of Twitter’- gave his permission for this poem to be printed when he appeared on Thursday 10 February at Kibworth Community Library, as part of the Leicester Comedy Festival.
The poem is in his latest book, ‘Alexa, what is there to know about love?’
Of course, as we all know, February is the month of love so wholly appropriate.
Thanks go to Brian for the readings at our library and for the poem.
