Scenic running
Charnwood Hills Race
Sunday 6 February saw four Club members take on this challenging 14 miles course around some of Leicestershire’s most scenic views. The route includes Bradgate Park, Broombriggs and Beacon Hill Country Park with over 1,200 feet of ascent. Recent rain made for a muddy course, and runners had strong winds to contend with as well.
Alex Prettyman posted a time of 1:48:55 for 29th position overall in a field of almost 300 runners, with Pete Bennett in 62nd position 1:56:52. Lorna Muskett clocked her fastest time in this event to finish as 7th Female in a time of 2:06:07. Bernie Owen, by her own standards, not in the best of form, but still finished well under the 3-hour mark
Hill running
Longmynd Valleys Fell Race
Sam Pole was in action further afield, on the Shropshire Hills, taking on 4,500 feet of ascent over 11.5 Miles. A field of over 100 runners included several England Internationals took part, with Sam clocking a time of just under 2 hours to take 15th place overall.
Off the couch and running
Couch to 5k
A fantastic turnout for Week 1 of our current Couch to 5k course with over 30 enthusiastic runners braving the freezing conditions in the middle of January. As well as the regular Thursday nights guided by Club runners, everyone is keeping to a schedule of 3 runs per week as the time and effort gradually increases. Some people haven’t been able to run every week due to illness or other commitments but we are hopeful that the majority will make it through the 9 weeks and round it off with a park run in March.
