Leicester High School for Girls
Examination Season
It has been a busy few weeks at Leicester High with the examination season in full swing. GCSE and A-Level examinations have already taken place for many subjects and will continue until the end of June.
The disruption caused to education by the pandemic meant these are the first formal examinations held in-person since 2019. Pupils who are now sitting their A-Levels are taking their first formal examinations. This is after having been forced to move to online education in March 2020 before sitting their GCSEs.
However, the girls have shown their usual resilience and good humour in stepping up to this challenge. I am confident we will once again be celebrating their successes in August. Just as we did last year with:
- 76% Grade A* or A at A Level and
- 81% Grades 9 to 7 (A*/A) at GCSE.
We have worked hard as a School to prepare the girls for the challenge of examinations. Both by ensuring they have robust subject knowledge and, equally as importantly, providing them with the emotional support to make sure they perform at their best.
Examination Success
I would like to share my observations on what, in my experience, leads to examination success:
Be Prepared
This is always easier when you have given yourself enough time! Create a revision plan, ensuring you leave time for breaks and unforeseen circumstances which may interrupt even the best laid plans.
Get Organised
Make sure your revision notes are well ordered and keep your study space tidy.
Work out your Best Way of Revising
Some pupils prefer to revise alone whereas others learn best when they are able to discuss ideas with friends. Decide what works for you and don’t be convinced by friends to take part in group revision sessions if you know they won’t help you! Remember these are your exams so learn your way.
Take Breaks
Plan regular breaks into your revision sessions, make sure you are getting enough sleep, eat well and drink plenty of water.
