Well, what a summer! The heat hasn’t deterred the wonderful people and businesses of Kibworth and surrounding areas showing great support for GEMS charity. The generosity and kindness never seems to fade.
The Railway
On the three-day Platinum Jubilee Weekend an event was held at The Railway. Sam Shields from The Railway, along with Jeff Pearce, Derek Ward, and numerous volunteers, organised and helped . This raised a massive £4,000.
Open Farms
Open Farms in Markfield was again a great family day out. We are waiting to hear the amount to be donated to GEMS. All the hard work in organising our tombola by Angie paid off, raising £195.50
Smeeton Westerby Open Gardens
Smeeton Westerby Open Gardens was in memory of Kelvin Capell, who loved his plants. He was a passionate supporter of GEMS, and this raised another massive amount of £3187. Many gardens, some with refreshments, were enjoyed by the visitors. With craft stalls and a bite to eat at ‘The King’s Head’. Brass on the Grass raised an additional £790.
VIP Race meeting
Our very first GEMS VIP Race Evening Meeting at Leicester Racecourse was well supported by local businesses. They enjoyed the great atmosphere. Wine was donated by the ‘Coach and Horses’ Kibworth. Brilliant food was provided by Neil Green Catering Lutterworth. And of course, the horse racing. was fantastic. The guests and Leicester Racecourse really did go the extra furlong raising a magnificent £8,300
GEMS Golf Day
GEMS Golf Day at Market Harborough Golf Club was very well supported. Although it was extremely hot the great amount of £2265 was raised. Thanks again to the Golf Club and all our sponsors.
All for a great cause
All money raised will go towards our latest project. We hope to convert a balcony into an inside treatment area and to refurbish the existing treatment area. This will allow many more chemotherapy patients to receive their much-needed cancer treatment without delay. It will also give them a peaceful, bright space to be in whilst receiving their treatment.
The current target for this project is to raise £660,000. We still need to raise £360,000. All the hard work and generosity of these events will help tremendously. Thank you all so much.
