Celebrating Harvest
Now that the nights are closing in and autumn has truly arrived, it was time to celebrate Harvest here in Smeeton Westerby. Firstly, on 30 September we held our Harvest Supper in the Village Hall. The whole place looked really welcoming, with soft lighting and beautiful flower displays on each table. We welcomed nearly 50 guests to a delicious meal of carbonara, salad and French bread. Followed by a wonderful selection of desserts donated by some of our guests.
Our speaker for the evening was Matthew Hopkinson. Matthew regaled us with fascinating tales of his latest adventures to The Alto Via in the Dolomites, Italy. He and a group of friends had recently trekked across this dangerous, and yet truly fascinating, landscape seeing and experiencing some amazing sights. Everybody was really interested and engrossed in his story, which he brought to life with slides and videos and some very amusing tales. Through the generosity of our guests we raised around £400, which will be donated to the Pakistan Disaster Fund.
To continue our special weekend, we celebrated Harvest Festival in Christ Church on Sunday 2 October. The service was very well attended and it was lovely to see so many gifts being presented. All of the items received were shared between The Well in Kibworth and Open Hands, a charity for the homeless and destitute based in Leicester. Once again, we were so impressed by people’s generosity and over £200 was raised.
Christmas Fayre – Sat 26 November
Our next big event is the Christmas Fayre on Saturday 26 November, 2.00pm – 4.30pm. We love this event, as there is such a warm friendly atmosphere. It’s especially lovely to see and hear the excited children as they wait to meet Father Christmas. One of our most popular stalls is our Soft Toy Tombola. Where everyone is a winner!
So, if you have any clean, virtually new soft toys that you feel need a new home, please ring me on Tel:07950409610 and I will arrange to collect them.
Many thanks.
