Have you visited the Welcome Kitchen yet?
The short answer is probably “No”.
Curiously the first person through the doors on a Monday lunchtime usually travels from South Kilworth for the friendly company, a deliciously warm home-made soup and roll, tea and biscuits all for the princely sum of £1 – they could donate more or even less – it’s up to the customers!
The Welcome Kitchen is like the BBC, it is for ‘everyone. It’s already seven weeks into its original eight week planned autumn season. There will not be a Welcome Kitchen over the Christmas period. The last one being Monday 19 December when visitors will be treated to warmed mince pies.
The success of the Welcome Kitchen has largely been down to the excellent friendly team of volunteers and the wonderful generosity of the sponsors who have made their small donations to pay for Kibworth Grammar School Hall’s £40 weekly rental.
The sponsors range from our local Co-op, Kibworth Grammar School Hall itself, Louise Faye, Joan Fillingham, Moulton College in Northampton, Angie Harris of NJ Harris, Lubenham, Karen’s Blinds in Oadby, and someone who wanted to remain anonymous.
You can find the Welcome Kitchen on the warmwelcome.uk website. This identifies all the warm spaces one can find in your locality.
If you or your business haven’t sponsored a session or two yet, do not worry. The Welcome Kitchen will reopen 12 noon on Monday 9 Janauary for another eight-week winter season. A wonderful warm space, more food choices, lovely friendly company will be on offer.
If you can’t make it before Christmas perhaps you might pop in after New Year.
In the meantime the Welcome Kitchen team send warm Christmas wishes and a healthy 2023 to you all.
